In the colorful city centre, in the very heart of Sofia sparkles a true jewel of the architecture. This stylish building accommodates the favourite restaurant of many connoisseurs.
Teodor Teodorov was a distinguished Russophile, respected public figure, Member of Parliament and Prime Minister of Bulgaria. He received a building permission in 1909. One of the most beautiful buildings in the capital was finished in 1910. Now, one century later, the time has only paid tribute to the beautifully ornamented façade and the fantastic lush garden. In 1940 the ownership of the building was divided amongst the three heirs of Teodorov. The interior was reconstructed in order to meet their needs. Performing this reconstruction, the architect M. Pushkarov managed to preserve the exterior of the building perfectly intact. For a short period of time the building was used by the / Commission of the Partners /?, the Russian club and later on it became a restaurant. Restaurant Krim, former Russian club, inhabits a local monument of the architecture.
Krim has always been a spot of great attraction for the bohemians in Sofia.
Its regular guests included famous authors, artists, actors and musicians, and nowadays- world widely renowned actors, sport stars and heads of state are amongst the visitors of the restaurant. Some of the most distinguished stars who have dined here are Ornella Mutti, Barbara de Rossi, Catherine Deneuve, Sandrine Bonnaire, Morgan Freeman, Roy Scheider, as well as the film directors- Luigi Perelli, Claude Brasseur, Krzysztof Zanussi, Nikita Mikhalkov and Andrei Konchalovsky.
The building witnessed the foundation of the Rotary club, initiated by Doctor Nicolay Nikolayev- minister of education and interior. In the period 1944- 1950 the Union club held its meetings in the halls of the restaurant. The club was based on the model of the similar clubs in Western Europe, aiming to provide the members of the political, diplomatic and cultural elite of the country with opportunities to communicate and establish personal connections. In 1990 the Union club was restored and afterwards chaired by Hristo Kurtev. In 2007 the owner of the restaurant Yavor Kapitanov invited the club to revive the tradition to gather in the legendary building in Slavyanska and Dobrudja streets.
